It is about our Foundation Concepts. Since 1947, Miller Bearings has remained dedicated to providing the latest technology available for our customers' motion control and power transmission needs. These Foundation Concepts have been the bedrock that has allowed us to do so.
Miller Bearings celebrates 60 years serving Florida industry
2007 marks Miller Bearings´ 60th anniversary in the bearings and power transmission business in Florida. The company´s growth over those 60 years was described in a chronology published in the December's Miller Beacon.
Miller Bearings Chronology
| 1947 | Nils Miller establishes Miller Bearings in Lakeland with three product lines and services the citrus and phosphate industries. |
| 1951 | Joe Etheridge with son, Bud in partnership, purchases the assets of Miller Bearings from Nils Miller. |
| 1957 | Miller Bearings expands into Orlando to accommodate Central Florida´s growth prompted by the emerging space program. |
| 1974 | Miami and West Palm Beach locations: Miller purchases Gondas Supply in Miami with a branch in West Palm Beach. The area was enjoying rapid growth and new construc- tion and introduced Miller Bearings to the sugar industry. |
| 1976 | Fort Lauderdale is selected as Miller´s fifth location to better serve the new and expanding South Florida market. |
| 1980 | Miami offices destroyed in rioting but quickly recover with emergency procedures and open new branch location in 1981. |
| 1981 | Cocoa branch opened in response to increased demand on the Space Coast. |
| 1982 | Jacksonville location opened to expand geographically to northeast Florida. |
| 1984 | Tampa branch opens to accommodate the port trade serving the nearby phosphate operations. |
| 1986 | Fort Pierce is acquired in the middle of the fertile and prosperous agricultural region. |
| 1988 | Export Division in Miami opens to better accommodate the growing export sales volume. |
| 1989 | Miller purchases Industrial Bearings & Drives, Inc. in Ocala in order to expand our market to the northwest. |
| 1992 | To complement the efforts in Tampa and to better accommodate our customers on the west side of Tampa Bay, we purchased Industrial Bearings & Components to open in Largo. |
| 1995 | The MBI Group was established to address the growing demand for motion control technology throughout Florida. |
| 1997 | Fort Myers. Miller Bearings purchased the assets of Ft. Myers Bearings & Transmission to gain better access to the important southwest region of Florida. |
| 1999 | Daytona Beach and Deland locations were acquired through the purchase of Daytona Bearings, Inc. This location Moved us further north up the east coast toward our Jacksonville location. |
| 2001 | We expanded into the panhandle, opening in Tallahassee the state capitol of Florida. |
| 2003 | Miller acquires the assets of Horizon Industrial Supplies to expand both our geographical coverage and our product offering, including the installation and servicing of conveyors for Florida industry. |
